From left to right:
- Citronella. I actually have two of these, on either side of the back door. I planted them mere weeks ago, and they already appear to need pots at least twice as big. Not sure if they are actually doing anything against the mosquitoes, though. I have rubbed the leaves vigorously on my arms, and then been bit not long after. *shrugs*
- Malabar Spinach-seeds just planted
- Basil- both sweet and purple. They are looking rather lame, as I recently chopped them down for use in pesto. They should be huge and beautiful and ready for another chopping in a few weeks to a month!
- Oregano.
- Lemon Thyme. This plant, as well as my oregano, are about three years old. They both need bigger pots. Every winter or spring, I chop them down to soil level and they grow back luscious as ever.
- Mint- Sweet Lemon, and Chocolate. This pot was filled to the brim with overgrown, scraggly, pot bound spearmint. Even after severe pruning, it would grow back unhealthy. Since spearmint is not my favorite mint (there had originally been Ginger Mint planted as well but the spearmint over-ran it) I just dumped it all out and opted for something new. These are about a month old.
- Rosemary. This plant is about five years old and REALLY in need of a bigger pot.
I adore herbs, and want ALL the flavors or everything, as well as all the more unique and unusual herbs. But I have limited pots and money, so I stick to the basics. I use all these in my cooking, so they have earned their keep!
